Introduced to music at a very early age, Jason soon developed a strong passion for singing and playing the piano. While in high school, Jason was part of an a cappella “doo wop” group and this sparked his desire to study voice. After high school, Jason started an a cappella quartet in which he sang in for 4 years. During this time, he would develop his skills and knowledge of harmony singing and voice. Studying every aspect of singing and all styles from barbershop quartets, bluegrass, gospel, and country all the way to theater and everything in between, he soon developed a strong passion for teaching. He would spend the next several years developing and perfecting his own unique teaching methods and style, while also touring as a professional musician and vocalist. Jason has toured, performed and/or recorded with many of the top bands in the bluegrass genre, including Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver and Marty Raybon. In 2009, Jason received a Grammy nomination for a gospel project with Country artist Vince Gill. Soon after, Jason had the privilege of being a guest vocalist on the 2010 release of the legendary Paul Simon. During his career as a professional musician/vocalist, Jason sang and performed with some of the best vocalist in the industry, taking as many positive things from these singers as he could, to apply to his own singing and teaching ability. Jason also met many professional voice teachers across the country and he would study their methods of teaching, but still holding true to his own personal beliefs & techniques. During this time, he noticed that so many “voice teachers” would treat their lessons like a “therapy trap”! The students would have lessons once a week, for a long period of time, with very little results. Seeing this, it simply added to his determination to teach USABLE knowledge and to perfect the absolute best techniques and methods for teaching voice. Jason’s proven teaching style has a track record of students that speaks for itself!
Jason’s style of teaching, focuses primarily from the bottom of the throat to the top of the head. He believes you can have all the “proper posture” in the world, but if the technique is not right from the bottom of the throat to the top of the head, then you will still have problems. Jason’s main goal as a teacher, is to give the student the correct knowledge they need, to reach any vocal goal on their own and to establish a strong foundation they can continue building on, long after their time with him. With his unique teaching style, the student is not required to come every week and most students choose to stretch their lessons out over a period of time. Given this fact, students can purchase lessons in 2 different ways – as a single lesson or as a discounted package and once purchased, the lessons never expire. see pricing
Jason’s studio is a very laid back and stress free environment and his first priority is to make sure the student is relaxed and comfortable. Students enjoy this “laid back” approach to teaching, but make no mistake, a LOT of information is covered in a very short amount of time. Jason’s lessons are all 1 hr long and very result driven, targeted to each individual student and designed to give a lot of knowledge and immediate results with each lesson. Jason has students from all walks of life, ages, skill levels and genres and they range from the beginner with no experience, to the professional singer. Jason has helped many students prepare for, place and in many cases win, various singing competitions including: Tri Cities Got Talent, Kingsport Idol, America’s Got Talent, The Voice, American Idol and several others. Jason offers his teachings in a variety of different methods, including 1 on 1 in studio lessons, group lessons and also online lessons, via email, messaging, phone and Skype. At Leek Studios, there’s truly something for everyone, no matter your specific needs or budget.
Jason has enjoyed a career as a professional musician/vocalist, but he feels his true passion is with helping others reach their music and vocal goals. Jason continues to work very hard on making his teachings, that of the highest quality and the most productive lessons that students can find anywhere!
